A sensational theft of ₹55 lakh from the house of a retired soldier in Nandpura village has taken a dramatic turn after police arrested six accused, including the victim’s close friend who allegedly betrayed him for ₹1 lakh to buy a buffalo. Police from Deogarh station recovered the entire stolen property, including jewellery, cash, cartridges, and a licensed firearm. Daytime wedding meeting triggered initial suspicion The incident came to light on May 22 when a marriage proposal meeting was held at the house of retired soldier Vishnu Sikarwar, whose son also serves in the Indian Army. From 11 am to 4 pm, the family hosted guests from Bhind who had come for the proposal discussion. However, about an hour after they left, Sikarwar discovered that his licensed rifle had gone missing. A search of the house revealed that jewellery belonging to his married daughters and around ₹1.5 lakh in cash were also missing. Broken suitcases were later found in nearby fields, leading villagers to suspect that the visiting bride’s family had used “hypnotism” to commit the theft. Police reveal theft actually happened at night During investigation, Superintendent of Police Dharmaraj Meena received intelligence suggesting the involvement of a wanted criminal, Ram Swarup alias Swaroopa Gurjar, who carried a ₹32,000 reward. Upon interrogation, Swaroopa revealed a crucial twist — the theft had actually taken place on the night of May 21, not during the daytime meeting on May 22. The family had been sleeping with coolers running when the thieves entered through agricultural fields and the rooftop, stole valuables, and escaped undetected. The confusion in timing led to false suspicion being placed on the visiting marriage party. Friendship betrayed for ₹1 lakh deal The mastermind behind the conspiracy was identified as Ramprakash alias Rampa Sikarwar, a close friend of the retired soldier. Police said the plan was hatched during a birthday party of Swaroopa Gurjar’s son, where Rampa expressed a need for ₹1 lakh to purchase a buffalo. Swaroopa allegedly offered him money in exchange for precise information about a wealthy target. In greed, Rampa disclosed sensitive details about his friend’s household, including the fact that his daughters had returned home with jewellery. Six arrested, entire loot recovered Police formed four special teams and arrested six members of the gang, including Rampa Sikarwar, Rahul Gurjar, Pradeep Gurjar, Deshraj Gurjar and Jasrath Gurjar. One accused remains absconding. Recovered items include: Officials said most members of the gang were related to each other. Investigation still underway Police continue efforts to trace the remaining absconding accused and are examining possible links of the gang in other theft cases in the region.
