Another accident was reported on the accident-prone Naga Valley stretch of the Jabalpur-Raipur National Highway under the Barela police station area on Monday afternoon, raising fresh concerns over road safety in the area. An iron-laden truck travelling from Raipur to Jabalpur overturned near Naga Valley in the Barela police station limits, leaving the driver and helper seriously injured. Local residents have expressed growing anger over the repeated mishaps, while drivers remain apprehensive while travelling through the valley. The accident occurred when a truck carrying iron from Raipur to Jabalpur lost control and overturned. Driver and Helper sustain serious injuries According to police, the truck met with an accident near the valley, leaving both the driver and the helper seriously injured. The iron being transported in the vehicle was scattered along the roadside following the crash. After receiving information about the incident, the officer-in-charge of Barela Police Station and her team rushed to the spot. The injured men were shifted to the Government Medical College Hospital for treatment with the assistance of the 108 ambulance service. Police have launched an investigation into the incident. Locals hold National Highways authority responsible Local residents alleged that the recurring accidents in the area are a result of flaws in the highway’s design and blamed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for failing to address safety concerns. Resident Ashish Kumar Shukla said another major accident had occurred in the valley, with the truck veering off the roadway. While no fatalities were reported, both the driver and the helper suffered serious injuries. According to locals, NHAI and the district administration have been informed several times about the accident-prone nature of the stretch, but no concrete corrective measures have been taken so far. As a result, accidents continue to occur frequently in the area. View photos after the accident Demand for additional speed breakers and safety measures Residents said NHAI has installed speed breakers at some locations, but more traffic-calming measures are needed to control vehicle speeds and improve safety along the valley stretch. They argued that additional speed breakers and road-safety interventions could help prevent future accidents involving heavy vehicles. Authorities to inspect accident-prone stretch According to the Additional Superintendent of Police Suryakant Sharma, both injured driver and helper had been admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital for treatment. He added that NHAI officials would be contacted and a joint inspection of the site would be conducted to identify measures aimed at reducing accidents and improving road safety along the highway stretch.
