Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has been elected as the new president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). He was elected unopposed in the election held in Dhaka on Sunday and will now remain in this position for four years. The 37-year-old Tamim had been serving as interim president since April, when the Bangladesh government dissolved the BCB’s board of directors. He has become the 21st president of the BCB. Tamim retired from international cricket last year in January. He played his last match for Bangladesh in September 2023. He made his international debut in February 2007 in an ODI match against Zimbabwe. Former President Aminul Islam accused of corruption These elections were held by the Bangladesh government in April under an interim body. Earlier, the government had dissolved the previous elected body led by Aminul Islam based on the report of an investigation committee. The investigation committee had found Aminul and his board members involved in corruption and recommended reforms to the constitution. Fahim Sinha appointed vice president, 25-Member board formation complete In the first board meeting held after the elections, Fahim Sinha was appointed Vice President. He received 66 votes. With this, the formation of the 25-member board was completed, which will govern Bangladesh cricket for the next four years. Tamim scored more than 5000 runs in Tests Tamim scored 5134 runs in 70 Test matches at an average of 38.89. This included 10 centuries and 31 half-centuries. Meanwhile, in 243 ODIs, he has 8357 runs at an average of 36.65. He scored 14 centuries and 56 half-centuries in One Day Internationals. Tamim scored 1758 runs in 78 T20 Internationals at an average of 24.08. This includes 1 century and seven half-centuries to his name.
