parents-forced-to-push-child-on-stretcher-for-1-km:mother-shields-son-with-wet-cloth;-lack-of-help-sparks-outrage

In Indore, Madhya Pradesh, a disturbing scene was witnessed on Saturday afternoon between MY Hospital and the Super Specialty Hospital, raising serious questions over the functioning of the hospital system. In the intense heat, a sick child was seen being pushed on a stretcher by his parents for nearly 1 kilometre. During this time, the mother repeatedly soaked a scarf in water and placed it over her son to protect him from the scorching sun. The case is of a child named Adarsh, who was referred from MY Hospital to the Super Specialty Hospital due to a spinal cord problem. According to the family, upon reaching there, they were told that the child did not need admission and only his medical file and documents needed to be reviewed. During this process, the family had to take the child back to MY Hospital again on a stretcher. Sun, fatigue and helplessness family kept yearning for help In the blazing sun and extreme heat, the family kept searching for help as no stretcher or support staff was available in the hospital premises. The mother continued covering the child with a wet scarf, while the father kept pulling the stretcher. Despite repeated attempts, no hospital staff was found on site to assist them. 15 days of treatment, continuously increasing difficulties The family said the child has been undergoing treatment for the past 15 days. He was first admitted to the New Chest Ward, after which treatment continued at MY Hospital. Continuous referrals between hospitals and administrative delays have only added to the family’s distress. Mismanagement Despite Spending Crores of Rupees Responsibility for shifting patients within hospitals, including wards, tests and transfers, lies with outsourced staff. However, allegations suggest that stretchers and wheelchairs are often unavailable when needed, forcing families to manage on their own. Crores of rupees are spent every month on this system, yet such incidents continue to expose serious lapses. Outsourced Company Has Been Embroiled in Controversies Before The same outsourced company has faced questions over its functioning earlier as well. Recently, liquor bottles were found in a car parked inside the Super Specialty Hospital premises, raising concerns over security arrangements. In addition, complaints regarding its working style have also been raised in some other medical colleges in the state. MY Superintendent said – The matter has come to my attention MYH Superintendent Dr. Ashok Yadav said the matter is in his knowledge. Since the viral video shows the area near Chacha Nehru Children’s Hospital, it is being verified whether the child was referred from MYH or from Chacha Nehru Hospital. Doctor said – Investigating the child’s illness Meanwhile, Super Specialty Hospital in-charge superintendent Dr. Piyush Pancharia said he was in surgery. He added that it is being checked whether the child is admitted there and what his medical condition is.
