India could play a three-match T20 International series against Sri Lanka later this year during their scheduled tour of the island nation for a two-Test series. The Test matches are part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship cycle, but cricket officials are also exploring the possibility of adding white-ball matches to the itinerary. The proposed T20I series is currently under discussion, with cricket administrators looking to make use of an available 15-day window in the schedule. If approved, the additional matches would provide valuable game time for both teams and add more excitement to India’s tour of Sri Lanka. The development comes at a time when the Indian cricket calendar is packed with international assignments across formats. A final decision on the T20I series is expected after discussions between the respective cricket boards and scheduling authorities. BCCI exploring additional international opportunities A senior official from the Board of Control for Cricket in India confirmed that the possibility of conducting a three-match T20I series is being examined due to the availability of time during the tour. The official also revealed that the BCCI has received a request from the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) to send an India A side for a bilateral series. Such a move could further strengthen cricketing ties between the two neighbouring nations while providing valuable exposure to emerging players. The request highlights Nepal’s growing ambitions in international cricket and India’s continued role in supporting the development of the sport in the region. No decision yet on overseas league cooling-off period The BCCI official also addressed speculation regarding a proposed cooling-off period for former Indian cricketers wishing to participate in overseas T20 leagues. Reports had suggested that retired Indian players might be required to observe a five-year waiting period before joining foreign franchise tournaments. However, the board clarified that no such timeline is currently being considered. “A three-member committee has been created to form the draft policy but there is no time period in discussion of imposing any specific time period of cool-off,” a BCCI official said on Saturday. Committee formed to study policy The issue of a cooling-off period has been discussed within Indian cricket circles for several years. The BCCI has now formed a three-member committee to prepare a draft policy on the matter. While discussions are ongoing, the board has not yet taken any concrete steps or finalised regulations regarding participation in overseas T20 leagues after retirement.
