Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill penned an emotional note for fans after his team’s crushing defeat to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in IPL 2026 final. Playing in their home ground, the Narendra Modi Stadium, GT were outplayed by five wickets in what was a one-sided final. Gill, who finished as the second-highest run-scorer in the season, could not make much of an impact with the bat in the final, scoring just 10 runs. GT were hunting their second title but were no match for RCB in the final. Stating that the loss was a life lesson, he wrote, “We came so close but couldn’t get over the line. It hurts deeply, and the disappointment weighs heavy.” The 26-year-old further went on to thank the fans for their support throughout the season. “I want to thank each and every one of you who stood by us through the highs and the lows. Your energy pushed us to the very end,” his post, which featured several moments from the season, including a picture with boy wonder Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, read. It has to be noted that Gill, apart from his batting and captaincy, also drew attention for his Instagram posts, the captions of which often seem to take light-hearted jibes at other teams. India’s upcoming assignment is a multi-format showdown against Afghanistan which features one-off Test and three ODIs that starts from 6 June. Gill, the Test and ODI captain, will look to continue his good from IPL 2026 where he emerged as the second-highest run-scorer with 732 runs to his name. He also scored a century (104) in Qualifier 2 against the Rajasthan Royals.
