In Gwalior on Sunday (May 31), during a ‘Chhathi’ (sixth-day) ceremony, a woman was killed after being hit by a bullet fired accidentally during celebratory firing. After the incident, the family allegedly tried to hide the body in a deep freezer and planned to carry out the last rites at night, but the matter reached the police before they could proceed. The incident took place at the home of Manoj Kushwah in Trupti Nagar, Nadepar Tal area of Thatipur, where the Chhathi ceremony of his newborn son was being held. Relatives and guests were present at the house. Between 10 and 11 am, Manoj’s younger brother Yogesh was preparing to fire an illegal country-made pistol in celebration of the child’s birth. According to eyewitnesses, Yogesh was repeatedly loading and unloading the weapon when the trigger accidentally went off. The bullet hit the head of the child’s mother, Jahnavi alias Jyoti Kushwah (32), who was sitting nearby. She collapsed on the spot and died before anyone could assist her. The house erupted in chaos and panic after the incident. Concealed the crime instead of informing the police Police said that instead of informing authorities, the husband Manoj and his brother Yogesh allegedly decided to conceal the incident. They arranged a large deep freezer and placed the body inside to prevent decomposition and avoid detection. Told people around that death occurred due to illness Around 11 pm on Sunday, the accused were reportedly preparing to secretly take the body for cremation. Neighbours were told that the woman had died due to illness to avoid suspicion. Neighbor became suspicious – Why the need for a deep freezer at night A local resident grew suspicious after noticing a deep freezer being brought into the house and unusual late-night preparations for cremation. The neighbour informed Thatipur police. Police arrived immediately, but Manoj and Yogesh fled after seeing police vehicles. The body was recovered from the house and sent for post-mortem. A forensic team was also called to the scene and collected evidence. Police are investigating the source of the illegal country-made pistol used in the incident. Police said – Both accused will be arrested soon Police stated that hiding the body and attempting cremation without informing authorities is a serious offence. Cases have been registered against husband Manoj Kushwah and brother-in-law Yogesh Kushwah, and both are being searched for arrest. Officials said they will be arrested soon.
