A proposed religious gathering in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, was cancelled on Sunday after police and district authorities denied permission for the event. Following the cancellation, Telangana MLA T Raja Singh reacted sharply, alleging that certain groups were taking credit for the programme being called off. Using controversial language while addressing supporters, T Raja said that “jihadi elements have started celebrating” and claimed that some people were portraying the cancellation as their victory. He warned that they would be answered “in their own language” in the future. The MLA further said, “Your Raja will return to Bhopal before the end of this month,” adding that he would meet local people again. At the same time, he stated that he respects the government, the courts and the police administration and therefore would not stage any protest against the decision. FIR Registered Over Social Media Posts Meanwhile, an FIR has been registered at Talaiya police station in Bhopal over alleged objectionable comments made on social media regarding the proposed religious gathering. Complainant Adarsh Inwate alleged that two Instagram account holders posted threatening, abusive and provocative remarks linked to the event. According to police, cases have been registered against the operators of the Instagram accounts “adventure_with_araz” and “md_amir_khan_444”. Following a preliminary inquiry, a case was registered under Sections 196(1), 351(3) and 323(A) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and an investigation is underway. T Raja Known for Hardline Hindutva Image T Raja Singh, an MLA from the Goshamahal Assembly constituency in Hyderabad, Telangana, is often in the spotlight for his hardline Hindutva image and outspoken statements. The religious event was scheduled to be organised in Bhopal’s Gandhinagar area by the Dharmarakshak organisation. After authorities denied permission, the matter reached court. Since no final decision was delivered during the hearing, organisers postponed the programme. Mention of concern about increasing social tension The complaint submitted to police stated that such public comments could promote communal disharmony and increase social tension. It also alleged that the posts violated orders issued by the Police Commissioner. Allegations of threats on social media Shishupal Thakur of Dharmarakshak Gramin has also sought action from the police, alleging that threatening and objectionable comments were being circulated online against T Raja Singh ahead of the proposed event. He claimed that evidence of these social media threats had been handed over to the authorities. Dharma Sabha has been organized for 12 years According to Dharm Sabha president Madhav Sen, the event has been organised annually in the Gandhinagar area for the past 12 years, usually alongside the Mahakal Trishul Yatra. Last year, BJP leader Kapil Mishra attended the programme. Organisers said the administration’s decision to deny permission has been challenged in court. The new date of the event and future plans will now depend on the outcome of the upcoming court hearing.
