sam-altman-says-ai-will-not-cause-major-job-losses:it-is-impossible-to-replace-the-human-part-of-employment

Open-AI CEO Sam Altman said in Sydney on Tuesday that the rapid growth and use of AI will not lead to a jobs apocalypse, or a crisis of jobs, in the world. He acknowledged that technology has not eliminated as many white-collar jobs as he had previously feared. Altman said- I’m happy to be proven wrong Sam Altman, who virtually participated in a conference of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA), shared several important points. In an interview with CBA Chief Executive Matt Comyn, Altman said that initially, he was concerned about the impact of AI on global employment levels. He said that when ChatGPT was launched in 2022, the technical predictions made by OpenAI proved to be almost correct. However, they were quite wrong about its social and economic impacts. Altman said he was very happy to be proven wrong on this point. No impact on entry-level white-collar jobs Altman said he thought entry-level white-collar jobs would have been eliminated by now, but that didn’t actually happen. Now he understands better why it didn’t happen. He is grateful for this, as old fears have now been proven wrong. He further added that people were telling him that he could have saved the world from this fear and anxiety. But at that time, it seemed like a real risk to me, which was important to talk about. He also said that this risk might still emerge in the future. AI-driven changes continue in companies, and OpenAI may launch an IPO
Although Altman did not provide any precise figures related to jobs, he had previously expressed the possibility of layoffs in the industry due to the growth of AI. Many large companies worldwide, such as HSBC, Amazon, Standard Chartered, and CBA, have already announced that some of their jobs are being replaced by AI. Meanwhile, according to a Reuters report, OpenAI is preparing to launch an IPO (Initial Public Offering) in the US in the coming weeks. According to an October report, the company could target a valuation of $1 trillion and raise at least $60 billion. Impossible to Replace the Human Element in Employment Altman stated that he has realized that even though AI is playing an active role in many industries and jobs, there is a human element of employment that can never be replaced. Giving his own example, he said that he was using AI to respond to Slack and email messages, but later he started responding himself. Understood the Importance of Human Interaction from His Own Example Altman stated that when he started having AI respond to messages, it would reply with ‘This is Sam’s AI’. This was a big example for him that we truly care about people. He said that interacting with people takes up a significant portion of his time. He cannot even imagine handing this over to AI in the future. This realization convinced him that AI will never be able to replace the essential human interaction required in jobs. Sam said that in both positive and negative ways, it is clear that the job landscape is going to be quite different from what we imagine. He doesn’t believe there will be a major job crisis, as some companies in this sector claim. What is the Jobs Apocalypse? This is a situation under which it was feared that with the advent of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and automation, human jobs would be eliminated on a large scale worldwide, leading to a severe economic crisis. However, experts now believe that instead of completely eliminating jobs, AI is changing the way work is done.
