India-US trade deal will benefit both the countries, said US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio on Sunday, 24 May, 2026 as he briefed the media over his inaugural India tour. On the Strait of Hormuz, Rubio added that no country shall nationalise international waterways, giving indications of US’ stand on Iran-led disruptions on the ships passing by. India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that both countries realise the importance of concluding the India-US interim trade deal as soon as possible. US team to visit India soon: Indian external affairs minister Jaishankar also said that to take negotiations further, an American team would visit India soon. He added that both countries’ national interests are in harmony. On energy issues, he said that India needed to have alternative and cheap energy sources, adding that diversified energy sources are at the heart of India’s strategy in the wake of the ongoing global energy crisis.
