Marking another major achievement in the direction of advanced health services in the capital, AIIMS Bhopal has created history by performing its fourth successful heart transplant.

A 26-year-old female patient, who was battling a serious condition called post-partum dilated cardiomyopathy, is now completely healthy and moving towards a new life.
The patient was admitted to AIIMS Bhopal in critical condition on April 25, 2026.

Considering the severity of the situation, the specialist team decided on an immediate heart transplant on the same day and successfully performed the operation. After approximately three weeks of intensive treatment and monitoring, the patient was discharged from the hospital in good condition on May 19, 2026. Behind this life-saving operation was the significant contribution of the family members of a brain-dead donor, who made the courageous decision to donate organs even during difficult times. Their step not only gave a new life to a woman but also sent an inspiring message to society about organ donation awareness.

This complex transplant procedure was completed under the guidance of the institute’s Executive Director and CEO, Prof. (Dr.) Madhvanand Kar and Medical Superintendent Prof. (Dr.) Vikas Gupta. The team from the Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS) department made the operation successful with high efficiency and coordination. The team included Dr. Yogesh Niwaria, Dr. M. Kishan, Dr. Surendra Yadav, Dr. Rahul Sharma, Dr. Vikram Vatti, Dr. Aditya Sirohi, and Dr. Anjali Tiwari.

Along with them, Dr. Bhushan Shah and Dr. Sudesh Prajapati from the Cardiology department, Dr. Vaishali Vendeskar, Dr. Pooja, Dr. Sunaina Tejpal Karn, and Dr. Harish from the Anesthesiology team also played important roles. Transplant coordinator Dinesh Meena efficiently coordinated the entire process. Prof. (Dr.) Madhavanand Kar expressed happiness over this achievement and said that this success is the result of AIIMS Bhopal’s expertise, modern facilities, and dedicated teamwork. He expressed gratitude towards the organ donor’s family and said that their decision became a gift of life for someone.
