Read the report Three labourers suffer 99% burns Three labourers suffered up to 99% burns in the explosion and are undergoing treatment in the burn unit at Amaltas Hospital. Doctors are continuously monitoring their condition. Doctors call it a ‘dry burn’ case Dr. Dilip Kothari, Professor and Head of General Surgery at Amaltas College, said the injuries fall under the category of chemical or “dry burns,” making the patients’ condition extremely critical. He explained that inhaling hot air or smoke causes lung injury, burning the lungs internally. Risk of kidney failure and shock According to Dr. Kothari, severe burns lead to major fluid loss and hemolysis, in which the blood turns watery. This increases the chances of kidney failure, shock, and death. Windpipe and organs also affected He said that besides skin burns, the windpipe is damaged, causing breathing difficulties. Toxic air is removed, and patients are given pure oxygen. Dehydration, nerve damage, and impact on the liver and other organs are also common, while the loss of the body’s protective layer increases the risk of infection. Continuous monitoring underway Doctors are controlling the patients’ body temperature to prevent hypothermia and heatstroke. Daily dressing and continuous monitoring are being carried out due to the seriousness of the condition.
