The Madhya Pradesh High Court has recognised Dhar’s Bhojshala as a Vagdevi (Goddess Saraswati) temple. Delivering its verdict on Friday, the Court said it had considered archaeological and historical evidence, the ASI survey report, provisions of the ASI Act, as well as the Ayodhya judgment while arriving at its decision. According to legal news portal Bar and Bench, the High Court observed- The historical and protected site is a temple of Goddess Saraswati. The Central government and the ASI should decide how the Bhojshala temple will be managed. Under the 1958 Act, complete management of the property will remain with the ASI. The Court also set aside the ASI’s 2003 order that had denied Hindus the right to worship at the site. Another order granting Muslims the right to offer Namaz at the complex was also quashed. The Muslim side, which has maintained that Bhojshala is the Kamal Maula Mosque, has been advised by the Court to seek separate land from the government for a mosque. Key points of the HC verdict- Muslim side will move to SC Dhar Shahar Qazi Waqar Sadiq said the Muslim side respected the High Court’s verdict. He said senior advocates Salman Khurshid and Shobha Menon had presented their arguments before the Court. “We will review the judgment and then approach the Supreme Court,” he added. At present, the Bhojshala complex has been sealed off with barricades at the main gate. A heavy police deployment remains in place outside the site. Administration on alert after verdict Around 1,200 police personnel from across the district have been deployed at the Dhar Police Control Room. SP Sachin Sharma visited the control room to review security arrangements and issued directions to the police force. He said security in Dhar city had been organised in 12 layers.
