A man died in Sheopur on Friday morning after allegedly falling ill following the consumption of watermelon, while his son remains in critical condition. Food poisoning is suspected in the case. Indra Singh Parihar (43), a resident of Susner in Shajapur district, lived with his 21-year-old son Vinod in a rented house opposite the Reliance petrol pump in Sheopur. Indra Singh worked as a driver. Father and son complained of chest burning According to family members, Indra Singh fell ill after having dinner on Thursday night. Around 6 am on Friday, both father and son again complained of a burning sensation in their chests. To seek relief, the two reportedly ate watermelon kept at home. Family members said their condition deteriorated shortly after consuming the watermelon. Both were rushed to the district hospital. Doctors referred Indra Singh to Kota due to his critical condition, but he died on the way. Vinod’s condition also remains serious. The deceased is survived by his wife Sangeeta and three sons, Vinod, Raja and Deva. Another family member, Radhika, was also living with them in Sheopur. Relatives left to bring back the body after receiving information about the death. Doctors suspect possible infection Civil Surgeon Dr R B Goyal said two people were brought to the hospital in serious condition on Friday morning. He said it had not yet been confirmed whether the illness was directly linked to eating watermelon. According to doctors, there could be a stomach infection, and further clarity would emerge only after medical tests. Family members said the watermelon had been purchased from Khatoli Tiraha on Thursday evening and kept in a cooler overnight. Similar incident reported earlier in Chhindwara A similar incident had surfaced in Chhindwara last year. A 27-year-old man, Siddharth Tamrakar, who lived near Badi Mata Temple, had died under similar circumstances. Family members had claimed that Siddharth consumed watermelon after lunch and later went to sleep. When he did not wake up, relatives took him to the district hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
