The High Court delivered its verdict on Friday in the Bhojshala case of Dhar, Madhya Pradesh. The court has considered Bhojshala as the Vagdevi temple. The dispute regarding the temple and Kamal Maula Mosque had been ongoing since 1995. In between, the Jain community claimed it to be the temple of Ambika Maa. After the completion of hearings on five petitions and three interventions, a two-judge bench had reserved its judgment on Tuesday. The history of Bhojshala is about 990 years old. King Bhoj had constructed it in 1034 AD and installed the idol of Maa Vagdevi here. The glory of Bhojshala lasted for more than 200 years, but in 1305 AD, Muhammad Khilji attacked Bhojshala and tried to destroy it. After this, Muslim invaders attacked Bhojshala many times. For many years, the idol of Mother Saraswati remained buried in Bhojshala. After this, the British came. They excavated from here and took the idol of Vagdevi to a museum in London. Now know the status of Bhojshala’s case in court Bhojshala Temple or Mosque, Scientific Survey Complete Hindu Front for Justice filed a petition in the Indore High Court on May 1, 2022, demanding that full possession of Bhojshala be handed over to Hindus. It also demanded that a scientific survey be conducted by the ASI to determine whether it is a temple or a mosque. On March 11, 2024, the Indore High Court directed the ASI to conduct a scientific survey of Bhojshala and submit a report within 6 weeks. ASI sought more time, for which time till July 2, 2024 was granted. ASI again sought time, for which the court gave a date till July 15. On this date, ASI presented the scientific report in the High Court. ASI started its survey with the help of Ground Penetrating Radar and Carbon Dating methods. Muslim Side Reaches Supreme Court On the other hand, against the High Court’s order of March 11, 2024, the Muslim side filed a special leave petition in the Supreme Court on March 16, 2024. In this, a request was made to hear the entire side. On April 1, 2024, the Supreme Court issued an order, which did not stop the scientific survey, but prohibited taking decisions based on the survey results without the permission of the Supreme Court. Instructions were given to keep the survey report confidential and not make it public. The Supreme Court also said that no excavation should be done that would alter the original form of Bhojshala. The Muslim side told the Supreme Court that the Hindu side went to court against the 2003 order and did not follow the petition filed by the Muslim side in 2019. The High Court ordered the survey without hearing them. After the survey report, the Hindu side filed a mention in the Supreme Court After the ASI survey report came, the Hindu side filed a mention in the Supreme Court, demanding that the stay on the decision based on the report be lifted and that the High Court be directed to make a decision.
