family-carries-body-on-bike-for-9-hours-seeking-postmortem:indore-police-accused-of-turning-them-away

After the death of a young man due to electrocution in Indore, the insensitivity of the system has come to light. The family members of the 21-year-old youth wandered for 9 hours (approximately 25 kilometers) carrying the body on a bike to get the post-mortem done. It is alleged that despite being informed, Banganga police did not fulfill their responsibility. The police reached the spot after a commotion the next day, only then could the post-mortem be conducted and the last rites performed. According to information, Ankit Phuleria, son of Dinesh Phuleria, a resident of Alwasa village, was electrocuted on May 11 while cutting iron rods at a house under construction. In critical condition, his cousin Neelesh and others took him on a bike to Arvindo Hospital, where doctors declared him dead after examination. Family members not ready to accept death, left with the body According to the hospital management, preparations were being made to keep the young man’s body in the mortuary and start the post-mortem process, but the family members were not ready to accept that Ankit had died. They refused to get the post-mortem done and left with the body. During this time, the hospital administration also informed the Baanganga police station about the matter. The hospital management alleges that a head constable named Sanjay from the police station refused to take responsibility and said, “Now they have taken the body, you know, your work is your concern.” The hospital claimed to have a recording of this conversation. It was also stated that considering the seriousness of the matter, Baanganga police station in-charge Siyaram Singh Gurjar was called three times, but no satisfactory response was received. Death confirmed at Sanwer Hospital too, yet no help received The family members took the body to Jain Hospital in Sanwer, where after examination, doctors declared the youth dead. Here too, the family members created a commotion, after which the hospital management informed Sanwer police about the death. Sanwer police reached the spot and during inquiry found that the matter belonged to Banganga police station area. Police tried to contact Banganga police station, but it is alleged that no response was received from there. Finally, around 9 pm at night, the family members returned to Arvindo Hospital again and the body was kept in the mortuary. Post-mortem was conducted after commotion the next day On Tuesday, family members expressed their anger and created a commotion over the delay in the postmortem. After this, a police officer from Baanganga police station reached the spot and necessary paperwork was initiated. Only then was the postmortem conducted and the young man’s last rites could be performed. Allegations of negligence have been made before as well The Aravindo Hospital management says that this is not the first case. Even before this, angry family members had left the hospital with the body due to alleged negligence by Baanganga police. In the matter, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-3) said that if any kind of negligence at the police level comes to light regarding the dead body, then the matter will be investigated and strict action will be taken against the guilty personnel.
