A youth allegedly shot dead a woman in Lakshmipur village of Panna on Wednesday morning. After opening fire with a country-made pistol, he also attacked her with a knife. Enraged over the incident, villagers caught the accused and his father, tied them to an electricity pole and assaulted them. According to information, Aarti Yadav (25), a resident of Lakshmipur, had gone behind her house on Wednesday morning to relieve herself. Vinod Yadav (23), who was allegedly lying in wait, attacked her. The woman’s brother Akash Yadav said Vinod had come armed with a country-made pistol and a knife. He first fired at Aarti and then stabbed her repeatedly. Accused was beating the woman with gun butt Hearing Aarti’s screams, her brother Akash rushed to save her. At that time, Vinod was allegedly assaulting the woman with the butt of the gun. The accused also tried to fire at Akash, but the gun did not go off. Seeing the woman lying in a pool of blood, villagers became furious. Tied to pole, beaten with sticks, kicks and punches The crowd caught Vinod and his father Bhikam alias Bachcha Yadav while they were trying to flee. Villagers tied both of them to an electricity pole and thrashed them with sticks, kicks and punches. After receiving information, police reached the spot and, after much effort, rescued the two from the mob and took them into custody. Woman referred to Rewa, died on the way Injured Aarti Yadav was immediately taken to the district hospital in Panna. Doctors provided primary treatment, but due to heavy blood loss and her critical condition, she was referred to Medical College in Rewa. She died on the way before reaching the hospital. Her family later brought the body back to Panna, where a postmortem will be conducted. Police arrested the accused and his father Panna Kotwali TI Rohit Mishra said police have registered a case and arrested the accused along with his father. Statements of family members are being recorded. Following the woman’s death, a case has been registered under murder and other relevant sections. The accused’s family had reportedly been living in the village and engaged in farming for the past 10 years. The reason behind the attack is yet to be established. Police said the matter is being investigated from every possible angle.
