The Lucknow Police recently busted an interstate gang accused of creating and selling forged IPL tickets using artificial intelligence tools and graphic design software. The incident came to light during the match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Ekana Cricket Stadium on Thursday. Police arrested four individuals who were allegedly selling fake tickets to cricket fans outside the stadium gates. According to the reports, the accused used AI platforms like ChatGPT along with graphic designing software to prepare duplicate IPL tickets that looked almost identical to original ones. The incident has raised concerns about the misuse of artificial intelligence in online fraud and ticket scams during major sporting events. Police reveal details of the operation regarding the ticket duplication Speaking about the matter, Amit Kumar Anand explained how the police tracked the gang after a fake ticket was detected during the match. “Yesterday, during the IPL match between LSG and RCB at Ekana Stadium, a fake IPL ticket was found with a person,” DCP (Lucknow South) Amit Kumar Anand told PTI. “During questioning, it was revealed that someone outside the stadium had sold the ticket. Following this, the Cyber Cell Lucknow and the Sushant Golf City police team carried out an operation and arrested four accused. All of them are residents of Durg district in Chhattisgarh,” he added. The police investigation revealed that the gang had travelled from Chhattisgarh to Lucknow to target cricket fans attending IPL matches. Authorities are now investigating whether the accused were involved in similar activities during previous games as well.
