The ongoing Indian Premier League 2026 season has witnessed a shocking case of fake ticket fraud in Lucknow. The Lucknow Police recently busted an interstate gang accused of creating and selling forged IPL tickets using artificial intelligence tools and graphic design software. The incident came to light during the match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Ekana Cricket Stadium on Thursday. Police arrested four individuals who were allegedly selling fake tickets to cricket fans outside the stadium gates. According to the reports, the accused used AI platforms like ChatGPT along with graphic designing software to prepare duplicate IPL tickets that looked almost identical to original ones. The incident has raised concerns about the misuse of artificial intelligence in online fraud and ticket scams during major sporting events. Police reveal details of the operation regarding the ticket duplication Speaking about the matter, Amit Kumar Anand explained how the police tracked the gang after a fake ticket was detected during the match. “Yesterday, during the IPL match between LSG and RCB at Ekana Stadium, a fake IPL ticket was found with a person,” DCP (Lucknow South) Amit Kumar Anand told PTI. “During questioning, it was revealed that someone outside the stadium had sold the ticket. Following this, the Cyber Cell Lucknow and the Sushant Golf City police team carried out an operation and arrested four accused. All of them are residents of Durg district in Chhattisgarh,” he added. The police investigation revealed that the gang had travelled from Chhattisgarh to Lucknow to target cricket fans attending IPL matches. Authorities are now investigating whether the accused were involved in similar activities during previous games as well. Lucknow police arrested four individuals allegedly involved in the duplication of tickets. AI and technology used in ticket forgery outside Ekana Stadium The use of artificial intelligence and advanced graphic tools in creating fake tickets has surprised many fans and officials. Reports suggest the accused generated ticket layouts, barcodes, and designs that closely resembled official IPL tickets, making it difficult for fans to identify the fraud immediately. The incident has once again highlighted how AI technology can be misused for illegal activities if not monitored properly. Police officials are expected to strengthen cyber surveillance and ticket verification systems for the remaining IPL matches in Lucknow. LSG keep playoff hopes alive after defeating RCB on Thursday Meanwhile, the match itself turned out to be a thrilling contest for Lucknow Super Giants. Led by a sensational century from Mitchell Marsh and a brilliant bowling display from Prince Yadav, LSG defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru by nine runs via the DLS method. The game was heavily interrupted by rain and was eventually reduced to a 19-over contest per side. Despite the weather interruptions, Lucknow managed to snap their six-match losing streak and also secured their first home win of the season. The victory kept LSG alive in the IPL 2026 playoff race and gave fans at the Ekana Stadium a memorable night, although the fake ticket controversy overshadowed some of the excitement surrounding the match.
