Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) dished out a dominant performance to defeat the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in match 49 of IPL 2026 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday, 6 May. Cooper Connolly struck an unbeaten century, but that went in vain as PBKS suffered a hat-trick of defeats. With this victory, Sunrisers Hyderabad moved to the top of the points table and are close to qualifying for the playoffs. The SRH vs PBKS match had many interesting moments. Let’s take a look at them. SRH vs PBKS Top Moments 1) Yuzvendra Chahal heartbroken after Shashank Singh drops catch IPL 2026 so far has witnessed a number of catches go down and there were plenty in the SRH vs PBKS match. And Shashank Singh, who had earlier attracted headlines for dropping a number of catches, found himself in a similar spot once again. This incident happened in the ninth over of the first innings when Heinrich Klaasen swept a Yuzvendra Chahal delivery, but the ball went straight to deep square leg, where Shashank was fielding. And, unfortunately for PBKS, Shashank ended up dropping yet another catch with the ball going for a four. Chahal was absolutely disappointed and went down on his haunches, even looking up at the heavens after this fielding blunder. 2) Kavya Maran’s reaction after Sunrisers go top of points table Sunrisers Hyderabad owner Kavya Maran was expectedly pretty happy after her team came out on top against the Punjab Kings at home. After the victory, Maran signalled ‘one’ with her fingers and appeared to say ‘first’ after SRH moved to the top of the points table. 3) Cooper Connolly drops Ishan Kishan’s catch Shashank Singh was not the only one who attracted eyeballs for his fielding. In the second innings, Cooper Connolly also dropped a catch of Ishan Kishan, who was batting on nine runs. This happened in the eighth over when Ishan played Lockie’s short ball on the middle stump towards deep square leg. The ball went straight to Connolly’s, who dropped the catch. Despite dropping the catch, the PBKS star was able to stop the ball from going for a boundary. 4) Prabhsimran Singh misses Ishan Kishan’s stumping It does not happen regularly but Ishan got three lifelines in the match, two of which came in the 11th over bowled by Chahal. On the fourth ball, Lockie Ferguson dropped a catch. Ishan swiped at a length ball. However, the ball slipped from Ferguson’s hands. On the last ball, wicketkeeper Prabhsimran Singh missed an easy stumping opportunity for Ishan. The left-hander stepped forward to play a big shot on Chahal’s flighted leg-break, but couldn’t read the ball. And Prabhsimran made a mess of the stumping with the extra bounce, surprising him. 5) Shivang Kumar dropped Connolly’s catch Connolly got a lifeline on the first ball of the 17th over of Punjab’s innings. Another easy catch was dropped on Eshan Malinga’s first ball. It was a slow off-cutter full ball on the leg stump, on which Connolly tried to play a big shot. The ball got a big top-edge and went very high towards deep mid-wicket. Shivang ran for the catch, but overran as the ball came down and despite diving, could not hold on to the catch. 6) Cooper Connolly plays Rishabh Pant-like shot to score century Connolly was the standout performer with the bat for the Punjab Kings in this match. The left-hander fought a lone battle in the massive 236-run chase and got to his century while playing a shot many would associate Rishabh Pant, with. This happened in the last over of the match when Connolly fell while playing a pull shot and the ball went over fine leg to the boundary. With this, he completed his century in the IPL and T20 cricket. Post navigation Six consecutive defeats, almost out of playoff race:Rishabh Pant leads flop batting show; what’s wrong with LSG?
