Expert says- Risk of accidents from ethanol-mixed petrol According to auto mechanic Firoz Khan, the effect of ethanol-mixed petrol is more on old (BS-4 or earlier) vehicles. This affects the carburetor and piston, which can cause the accelerator to suddenly speed up or lock. He explained that in new BS-6 (E20 compliant) vehicles, sensors and technology support ethanol. But old vehicles were not designed for this change, which increases the risk. According to automobile engineer Kapil Singh, the excess of ethanol is creating several technical problems in old engines.
