A farmer’s suicide in Behlot village, Vidisha, Madhya Pradesh, has stirred up the state’s politics. Farmer Govind Gurjar made a video before committing suicide. In it, serious allegations have been made against former MLA Shashank Bhargava, such as pressuring for the murder of Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and MLA Mukesh Tandon. Police have registered a case under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and started an investigation. On Monday evening, around 4 PM, Govind jumped in front of a train and ended his life. The accident was so horrific that body parts were scattered. Before committing suicide, he recorded five videos and sent them to acquaintances and WhatsApp groups, in which he mentioned the allegations. Now read what the farmer said in four videos before committing suicide Video-1: Accused of sharecropping and not paying money Govind Singh Gurjar stated that he is a resident of village Behror and had been cultivating the land of former MLA Shashank Bhargava on a sharecropping basis for the past three years (2023, 2024, 2025). He had taken a loan to plant paddy and wheat crops. According to the agreement, half the amount was to be received for the paddy crop and half for the wheat crop. According to Govind, after the factory caught fire, Bhargav kept the entire amount for the paddy and later did not pay for the wheat either. When he went to ask for the money, he was asked to bring a stamp paper. Govind says that he is uneducated, something was written down and his signature was taken, and he was told that the money would be given the next day. Video-2: Allegations of pressure for murder and assault Govind alleged that when he arrived the next day to collect the money, he was given a revolver and pressured to murder Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan and MLA Mukesh Tandon. Govind said that he flatly refused to do so and stated that he is a poor person who supports his family. After this, he was threatened and pressured. He alleged that he was repeatedly beaten and continuously threatened by people named Babu, Narayan, Jitendra, Durgesh, Brijesh, and Rakesh. Video-3: Appeal for justice, citing threat to life In another video, Govind appealed to former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav for help. He said that he is poor and his life is in danger. He demanded justice, mentioning the injustice being done to him. Video-4: Demand for justice for the family, identifying as a leader of the Gurjar community Govind also sought help from Rajasthan Congress leader Sachin Pilot. He said that Sachin Pilot is considered a prominent leader of the Gurjar community, but so far no one has come forward in his support. He emotionally said that if anything untoward happens to him, his family should be given justice. SIT formed, investigation from every angle Considering the seriousness of the matter, SP Rohit Kaswani has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) for the investigation. Police are thoroughly investigating the entire matter. Meanwhile, according to CSP Atul Singh, initial investigation has found indications of harassment allegations made by the deceased. On this basis, a case has been registered against the former MLA under BNS Section 108 (abetment to suicide). Shashank Bhargava had joined BJP from Congress Former MLA of Vidisha, Shashank Bhargava, left Congress and joined BJP on March 26, 2024. After being associated with Congress for a long time, his move was considered a major change in local politics. The electoral contest between Bhargava and BJP leader Mukesh Tandon has been direct. In 2018, as a Congress candidate, Bhargava defeated Tandon to win. However, in the 2023 elections, Tandon made a comeback and defeated him. Thus, both leaders have had one win and one loss in their respective contests.
