Noida International Airport (NIA) in Jewar is scheduled to begin commercial operations on June 15, 2026, a statement issued by the airport operator, said, according to news agency, PTI This will get the National Capital Region (NCR) a major logistics and travel upgrade also marking a pivotal shift in North India’s aviation landscape. The Countdown Begins The path to takeoff was cleared following a critical approval of the Aerodrome Security Programme (ASP) by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security. Airline Lineup Initial Routes The official booking window is still being finalised. IndiGo is slated to take-off the first flight, followed by Akasa Air and Air India Express. Going Global: According to a report by news daily, Hindustan Times, while the focus is domestic for day one, carriers from West Asia and Southeast Asia are already eyeing slots. International service is expected to be extended to passengers after domestic operations are rolled out. Infrastructure Capacity The airport is developed via a public-private partnership with an initial investment of ₹11,200 crore: Phase 1: A single terminal will be operational with a runway capable of handling 1.2 crore passengers annually. Upon completion of all four phases, NIA will evolve into a mega-hub serving 7 crore passengers per year. The Bigger Picture Positioned strategically along the Yamuna Expressway, the airport serves a dual purpose. It is expected that this will decongest traffic from New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, which has long faced heavy congestion. Beyond travel, the hub is expected to be a massive economic catalyst for Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddh Nagar district and the broader northern region.
