The Madhya Pradesh High Court has taken a strict stance on a public interest litigation filed regarding road safety. During the hearing, the court raised the question that when services like Ola-Uber become available within minutes, why don’t ambulances arrive on time in emergency situations? The court has issued notices to the central and state governments, along with NHAI, seeking answers in this matter. The division bench of Chief Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva and Justice Vinay Saraf said that this matter is directly related to people’s lives. The court asked when cab services can be available within minutes, why not ambulances? Mahavir Singh, a retired officer and resident of Dindori, has filed a public interest litigation demanding that real-time ambulance facilities like Ola-Uber should be made available on roads as well. The petition has also cited illegal cut-points built on national highways as a major cause of accidents. 300 illegal cut-points on highways The petitioner cited the example of the Bhopal-Jabalpur Highway, stating that approximately 300 illegal cut-points have been created by breaking the divider. This not only affects traffic but also rapidly increases the risk of road accidents. The petition stated that due to these illegal cut-points, the timely movement of ambulances is obstructed, putting the lives of critical patients at risk. What’s next? The High Court has sought responses from all concerned parties and directed them to present a detailed report at the next hearing. Strictness at the administrative level is now being expected regarding this matter.
