A major accident was averted during an IPL match played in Delhi on Saturday. Delhi Capitals’ South African bowler Lungi Ngidi got injured while fielding on the ground. Thanks to the quick thinking of Delhi Police ACP Sanjay Singh, he was rushed to the hospital in just 11 minutes amidst peak-hour traffic. ACP Sanjay Singh himself is a former cricketer and has played with Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir. Ngidi took a horrific fall on the field The match was underway between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings at Arun Jaitley Stadium. While attempting to take a catch at mid-off, Ngidi fell very hard on the ground, landing on his neck and head. Considering the seriousness of the injury, it was felt necessary to take him to the hospital immediately. The ambulance left the stadium at 6:16 PM and reached Max Hospital in Rajinder Nagar at 6:27 PM, just 11 minutes later. When the ambulance driver suggested going via Google Maps, Sanjay Singh stopped him. Sanjay Singh said, “I knew it was 6 PM and peak traffic time. The Google Map route could have been jammed. Based on my knowledge, I chose a longer but clear route and informed the control room.” Green corridor created with the help of 60 policemen Usually, green corridors for organ transplants are planned in advance, but this was the first time it was prepared in a matter of minutes. According to DCP Nishant Gupta of Traffic Police (Central Range), about 60 police officers and personnel were constantly coordinating on wireless sets to make this entire operation successful. They cleared every major junction to make way for the ambulance. He was discharged from the hospital the same night. Delhi Capitals and IPL confirmed his recovery on social media. Ngidi also informed fans on Instagram that he is now fine.
