A groom in a remarkable stand while refusing dowry worth nearly ₹50 lakh from the bride’s family during an engagement ceremony in Ujjain district. The incident took place in Bangred village under Badnagar tehsil, where the groom’s side returned cash and gold offered by the bride’s family, drawing widespread attention and praise. Engagement ceremony at resort turns symbolic The engagement ceremony was held on Sunday at Lotus Resort in Bangred village. The marriage was fixed between Adarsh Deep Rajawat, son of Lotus Group owner Jitendra Singh Rajawat, and Bindiya Kumari, daughter of farmer Mahendra Singh Panwar from Tamalpur village in Depalpur, Indore district. ₹25 lakh cash and gold refused During the traditional engagement ritual, the bride’s family offered ₹25 lakh in cash and around 15 tolas of gold. However, groom Adarsh Rajawat and his father declined to accept the dowry, leaving attendees surprised, as dowry is often associated with social prestige in such ceremonies. Only symbolic ring accepted The Rajawat family rejected the dowry in principle, stating that marriage is not a business transaction. They accepted only a symbolic gold ring, while returning the cash and other jewellery. “We want a daughter, not dowry” Jitendra Singh Rajawat, district president of the Kshatriya Mahasabha, said, “Marriage is not a deal. We want a daughter-in-law as a daughter, not dowry money. Dowry is a curse for poor families, and influential people must take the lead in ending it.” Social message praised by locals Villagers and relatives present at the ceremony supported the decision, calling it a powerful message against the financial burden created by dowry traditions. The step is being seen as a strong social example in a region where dowry practices remain deeply rooted. Wedding scheduled for November 2026 The wedding of Adarsh Deep Rajawat and Bindiya Kumari is scheduled for November 2026. Both families have agreed that the marriage will be simple and completely free from dowry.
