The ongoing IPL 2026 season took a shocking turn after a major security issue was reported at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. During a high-profile match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT) on April 24, critical surveillance systems inside the stadium were deliberately damaged. This unexpected incident created serious concerns as over 240 CCTV cameras stopped working. The damage led to a major security gap at one of the busiest cricket venues in the country, especially during a live IPL match attended by thousands of fans. Police quickly took action and arrested two individuals believed to be responsible for the sabotage. The incident has now raised questions about safety measures at major sporting events. What exactly happened during the RCB vs GT match? According to reports of Deccan Herald, the accused entered a restricted CCTV control room without permission and damaged important equipment. This included Network Video Recorder (NVR) systems and fibre optic cables, which are essential for the stadium’s surveillance network. Due to this damage, a large number of CCTV cameras went offline, creating a blind spot in security during the match. Who are the accused? The two individuals arrested have been identified as 37-year-old Manjunath from Chitradurga and 19-year-old Abdul Kalam from Uttar Pradesh. Both were working for a sub-vendor linked to IVS Digital Solutions, the company handling surveillance services at the stadium. A formal complaint was filed by Aditya Bhat, an employee of Staqu Technologies Pvt Ltd, an AI-based surveillance firm. He reported that the duo illegally accessed restricted areas and caused physical damage. Evidence and Investigation related to security breach incident Authorities have found CCTV footage showing the accused entering sensitive areas, including the control room and connection boxes near the parking area. This footage played a key role in identifying and arresting them. Initial investigations suggest that the act may have been done out of frustration over unpaid dues. Reports indicate that around ₹10 lakh was pending, and the accused claimed they had not received payments despite multiple reminders. Legal action and current status of the incident Police have registered a case against both individuals for intentionally damaging property and compromising security. Further investigation is ongoing to understand the full motive and whether more people were involved. Following logistical reasons, RCB have already completed their home matches at the Chinnaswamy Stadium this season. Their remaining home games are now to be played in Raipur as per the early schedule.
