In Ujjain district’s Ghattiya police station area, a major tragedy was averted due to prompt police action. In Nazarpur village, a husband and wife attempting suicide on Thursday night were rescued in time. The man had already hanged himself and was admitted to hospital in critical condition, but recovered after treatment. According to information, Asim, son of Shafiq Ahmed Patel, a resident of Nazarpur, and his wife Reena Patel had been under mental stress for a long time due to family disputes. Because of this, both decided to take the extreme step. Before the attempt, Asim had posted a WhatsApp status stating he was troubled by family issues. Police broke door, brought them down in time, both survived As soon as the WhatsApp status came to notice, Station In-charge Karan Khowal immediately sent a team to the spot. When police reached the house, the door was locked from inside. Peeping through a window, they saw the couple hanging. The officer engaged them in conversation from outside to distract them, while signalling the team to enter from another route. Acting swiftly, police broke open the door and brought both down. They were still breathing at the time. They were rushed to the government hospital in Ghattiya, where after treatment, both are now out of danger. After regaining consciousness, the couple said they took the step due to family disputes and alleged harassment by Asim’s father Shafiq. The station in-charge counselled them and assured a fair probe. The operation involved TI Karan Khowal, Sub-Inspector Alkesh Dange and Head Constable Rajendra Rathore.
