Nandre Burger has been one of the standout performers for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026. The left-arm pacer, alongside Jofra Archer, has played a key role in the team’s success this season. Burger’s pace and aggression have helped Rajasthan Royals win crucial matches and stay near the top of the points table. However, during a recent game, his intensity crossed the line, leading to disciplinary action. Despite his excellent performance, the incident has brought him into the spotlight for the wrong reasons. Why Nandre Burger penalised 10% of his match fee? The controversy happened during a match against Lucknow Super Giants. Burger picked up two important wickets, including captain Rishabh Pant and Mitchell Marsh, helping his team defend a modest total. However, after dismissing Pant, Burger gave an aggressive send-off, which appeared to include strong gestures or words directed at the batter. His over-the-top reaction did not go unnoticed by officials. Although the IPL did not clearly mention the exact behavior, it was enough to be considered a breach of the code of conduct. IPL takes disciplinary action against Rajasthan pacer The Indian Premier League governing body later confirmed the punishment in an official statement. The statement says, “Nandre Burger, bowler, Rajasthan Royals (RR) has been fined 10 per cent of his match fees and has also accumulated One Demerit Point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Wednesday. “Nandre Burger admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 – pertaining to using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from another player in the Match – and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the match referee’s decision is final and binding,” the press release read. Impressive season continues for Rajasthan Despite the penalty, Burger’s performances this season have been impressive. He has played all seven matches so far and taken eight wickets, with his best figures being 2/21. His pace and control have been important for Rajasthan Royals, and his economy rate of 8.45 is considered decent given his attacking style. The victory against Lucknow marked Rajasthan’s fifth win of the season, helping them climb to second place in the standings, ahead of Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
