A case of assault and alleged fraud involving a domestic worker has come to light in Jabalpur. Following a minor dispute, she was slapped, dragged by her hair and beaten. The incident was captured on CCTV. The incident falls under the Adhartal police station area. The victim, Poonam Barman, submitted a complaint and video to ASP Suryakant Sharma. In the footage, the employer, Anju Pandey, is seen assaulting her. Acting on the ASP’s instructions, police have registered a case and begun an investigation. It is alleged that she was given intoxicating pills and made to sign cheques, then taken to a bank in a car where money was withdrawn from her account. When she regained consciousness and protested, she was assaulted. The victim’s sister, Heera Bai, said around Rs 6.3 lakh was in Poonam’s account, which the accused withdrew. She also allegedly kept all her earnings and bank documents. Victim said – Suddenly demanded money, beat me when I refused Poonam said she had been working there for several months. Suddenly, Anju Pandey began demanding money. When she refused, she was beaten and, as part of a conspiracy, money was withdrawn from her account. On Wednesday, the victim reached the SP office with her sisters and submitted a complaint. Police have registered a case and started an investigation. Officials said action will be taken soon based on CCTV footage and the complaint.
