Social media influencer, content creator and former model Harsha Richharia took sanyas on Sunday on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya. She was initiated into monastic life at Ujjain’s Mauni Tirth Ashram by Swami Sumananand Giri, the head of Panchayati Niranjani Akhada. As per sanyas traditions, rituals of renouncing the shikha (tuft of hair) and staff were performed. Along with this, rites such as tarpan, pind daan and shraddh were also conducted, which are considered symbols of renouncing one’s previous life and beginning a new spiritual journey. After the religious rituals, Harsha Richharia formally embraced sanyas and was given the new name Swami Harshanand Giri. A large number of saints, devotees and followers were present at the ashram during the ceremony. On the occasion, Swami Harshanand Giri said that this marks a new chapter in her life. She said she has chosen the path of renunciation under the guidance of her गुरु and has resolved to dedicate her life to religion, culture and service to society while upholding the discipline of sanyas. Sannyasa Diksha is a profound and disciplined process Swami Sumananand Giri said that sanyas initiation is a deep and disciplined process in which a person renounces their past life and walks on a spiritual path. He added that all monks must ensure that the dignity of sanyas is never compromised, as a monk’s conduct impacts the entire society and the tradition itself. He stressed that following rituals and discipline is essential.
