Today, April 19th, is World Liver Day. On this occasion, an emotional and inspirational program called “Celebration of Life” was organized in Indore. Based on the theme “Conversation with Liver over a Cup of Coffee,” this program included people who received a new life through liver transplants and selfless donors who gave the gift of life to others through organ donation. This year’s theme focused on “Solid Habits, Strong Liver” (Strong Habits, Healthy Liver). Experts’ Warning: Changing Lifestyle Increasing Risk Liver specialist Dr. Ajay K Jain explained that poor diet, irregular routine, and increasing alcohol consumption are spreading liver diseases like an epidemic. When the liver completely stops functioning, transplant becomes the only option left. Dr. Sudhanshu Yadav emphasized that only when people closely witness the sacrifice of donor families does society’s attitude towards organ donation change. Emotional Story: When Mother Became Protector Five-year-old Mihir was the center of attraction at the event. Mihir received the biggest gift of his life from his mother Pinky. The child’s condition was critical and doctors had no option other than transplant. The mother donated a part of her liver without hesitation and today Mihir is completely healthy. Reality of the Numbers: Need is 50 Thousand, Only 5 Thousand Available Dr. Shohini Sircar and Dr. Suchita Jain shared India’s concerning situation. They stated that in India, 50 thousand people need liver transplants every year, but due to lack of availability, only 5 thousand patients are able to get transplants. According to counselor Debi Chatterjee, superstition and lack of awareness are the biggest obstacles in the path of organ donation. Stories of Courage: Defeating Cancer at Age 62 Advocate Mastan Singh Chhabra (62) shared that after being diagnosed with liver cancer in 2020, he received a liver through ‘cadaver donation’ (organ donation) within just three days. This was nothing short of a miracle. Today, he is living a normal life through strict discipline and exercise. Organ Donation: The Most Beautiful Expression of Humanity 49-year-old Sunil Mehra, who battled liver cirrhosis, shared how a donor brought him back to life 8 years ago. Sunil is now writing a book on this subject. He said emotionally, “We cannot live forever, but through organ donation we can keep beating within someone else forever.” Expert Tips to Keep the Liver Healthy Post navigation Ujjain–Indore Metropolitan Region expanded to over 16,000 sq km:Bigger than Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Pune; set-up waits approval from city’s in-charge officials BJP to hold protest rally in support of Women’s Reservation:CM says, ‘Will call special Assembly session, accuses Congress of snatching women’s rights’
