Indian stock markets were roughly unchanged at opening on Friday, 17 April, 2026. Sensex peddled towards 78,060.46 level. Nifty inched upwards to 24,220.00 points. Mixed sector-wise performance: Sectorally on the NSE, barring Nifty Private Bank, Metal, Financial Services and one another, all other indices traded with gains. Nifty Media emerged as the highest gainer, rising 1.55%. Israel-Lebanon ceasefire A 10-day ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel came into effect on Friday, after Trump announced on Thursday that both Israel and Lebanon had agreed to the temporary truce. In a post on Truth Social, he said, “I just had excellent conversations with the Highly Respected President Joseph Aoun, of Lebanon, and Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, of Israel. These two Leaders have agreed that to achieve PEACE between their Countries, they will formally begin a 10 Day CEASEFIRE at 5 P.M. EST.” According to India time, the ceasefire began at 7:30 am on Friday. US-Iran peace talks A Pakistani contingent had departed for Iran on Thursday to put proposals for second round of peace talks between Washington and Tehran.
