Tata Group, a major Indian conglomerate, has announced ambitious plans to significantly increase its vehicle production and invest in new technologies. Chairman N Chandrasekaran stated that the company aims to produce 2 million vehicles within the next five years. This announcement came as Tata Motors celebrated the rollout of its 1 millionth vehicle from its Lucknow manufacturing plant. Chandrasekaran emphasized the strong partnership between Tata Group and the state of Uttar Pradesh, where the Lucknow plant is located. He highlighted that the company’s vehicle portfolio has expanded beyond traditional trucks and buses to include vehicles powered by diesel, CNG (compressed natural gas), and electric engines. Looking ahead, Tata Motors plans to manufacture hydrogen-powered buses and trucks at the Lucknow facility, signaling a commitment to cleaner transportation solutions. The company’s growth plans align with India’s broader goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047 and Uttar Pradesh’s ambition to become a USD 6 trillion economy. Chandrasekaran noted the immense opportunities in India, with its economy expected to grow faster than most other countries in the coming decades. The Lucknow plant, which began operations in 1992, is seen as a symbol of the long-standing relationship between Tata Group and the Uttar Pradesh government. While it took over three decades to produce the first million vehicles, the company expects to reach the next million much faster, reflecting its accelerated growth. Beyond Tata Motors, the Tata Group is expanding its presence in Uttar Pradesh across various sectors, including software, power, hospitality, retail, and defense. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a leading IT services company within the group, currently employs around 20,000 professionals in cities like Lucknow, Noida, and Varanasi. TCS plans to double its workforce in the state to 40,000 over the next five years, demonstrating the group’s commitment to creating jobs and driving economic growth in the region. In addition to its business activities, Tata Group is also involved in social development initiatives in Uttar Pradesh. These include projects to restore water bodies and skill development programs. The company is also launching an AI (artificial intelligence) technology center of excellence in Gorakhpur, which aims to promote industrial and social transformation through AI technologies.
