In Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh, a tragic road accident took place on Friday on the Moondi–Sanawad highway. A speeding Eicher vehicle carrying around 40 people returning from a wedding ceremony went out of control and overturned. In the accident, 60-year-old Babulal died on the spot, while 36 people were injured, including 14 who are in critical condition. The incident occurred near Dudgaon under Punasa outpost area. According to information, the deceased has been identified as 60-year-old Babulal, a resident of Talwadiya village. Around 40 people, belonging to the Gurjar community, were travelling in the vehicle. They had gone from village Talwadiya (Attar) to Thukra Devla for a traditional ‘mamera’ ceremony. After the programme ended, they were returning home. The families were in a joyful mood, which turned into mourning on the way. The injured have been admitted to Khandwa district hospital, from where 14 have been referred to MY Hospital in Indore. Several others are also being shifted to Indore for treatment. Some suffered head injuries, while others have serious injuries to their limbs. See the accident in 5 pictures… Eicher overturned while overtaking The accident occurred when the vehicle reached near Dudgaon on the Moondi–Sanawad highway. According to eyewitnesses, the driver tried to overtake but lost control. As the vehicle moved off the road, it suddenly overturned. It is also being reported that the vehicle was overloaded, which may have contributed to the loss of balance. People kept screaming and shouting for help After the accident, chaos broke out at the spot. Many people were trapped under the vehicle and were screaming for help. Nearby villagers immediately reached the spot and began rescue operations. The injured were pulled out and taken to Sanawad hospital with the help of private vehicles and ambulances. Body sent for postmortem According to locals, after primary treatment, the seriously injured were referred to Khandwa district hospital. The body of deceased Babulal has been sent for post-mortem. Family members are in deep grief and there is a mourning atmosphere in the village. Accident due to overloading and overtaking According to police, preliminary investigation suggests that overloading, overtaking and negligence were the reasons behind the accident. However, technical aspects and the driver’s condition are also being examined. The exact cause will be clear only after a detailed investigation. Vehicles were racing, survivor claims Injured minor Manav Kevat (16) said that two Eicher trucks were racing at the time of the accident. The vehicle he was travelling in collided with another truck. After the collision, the side glass broke, the vehicle lost balance and went off the road before overturning about 25–30 feet away.
