Amidst rising tensions in the Middle East and supply chain difficulties, the central government has eased the rules for the sale of 5Kg LPG cylinders. Now, any person can purchase a small gas cylinder without any address proof. According to the Ministry of Petroleum, this step has been taken for migrant workers and those who do not have a permanent address in the city. Now, customers will only need to show any one photo-ID to an authorized distributor and they will be able to get the cylinder immediately. The ministry has clarified that a lot of documents are no longer required for the 5 kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinder. Customers can get the cylinder by showing documents like Aadhaar card, PAN card, and Voter ID. You can get it refilled as many times as you wish in a year. Availability of small cylinders increased due to impact on supply Energy logistics have been affected due to the ongoing tension in West Asia. Considering this, the government has also decided to increase the availability of small cylinders. According to government data, approximately 6.6 lakh small cylinders have been sold from March 23 till now. On April 4 alone, 90,000 units were sold. Officials say that there is no shortage of stock at distribution points. 11 help desks set up at HPCL outlets for migrants To help people living in other cities for work, the government has set up 11 special help desks at select HPCL outlets. These desks will provide consumers with information about the nearest distributor and help them get cylinders without any hassle. The demand for domestic gas is also at a record level; over 51 lakh domestic cylinders have been delivered in a single day. Notably, 95% of the total demand is now coming through online bookings. Action on black marketing, 50 thousand cylinders seized, 36 agencies suspended The government is strict against those who exploit supply shortages for profiteering. 30% cut in commercial supply, priority to homes and hospitals To avert the cooking gas crisis, the government has set priorities. Domestic consumers, hospitals, and essential institutions like schools are being given full supply. For this, the supply of commercial LPG has been reduced to 70% of the pre-crisis level. Meanwhile, there is good news for fertilizer plants; they will start receiving 90% gas supply from April 6. Always take cylinders from an authorized gas agency. This cylinder, without address proof, is part of the ‘Free Trade Market’, so its price may be different from a normal domestic cylinder. Always check the expiry date of the cylinder when taking it.
