Punjab Kings (PBKS) outclassed Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in what turned out to be a fascinating contest in the IPL 2026 on Friday 3, April. Chasing 210 to win, Punjab Kings crossed the finish line in 18.4 overs, riding on a stellar half-century by Shreyas Iyer. With this victory, PBKS continued their dominance over CSK at Chepauk, beating the five-time champions in their home ground for a fourth straight time since 2023. Chennai Super Kings, meanwhile, succumbed to their second defeat in two matches so far this season. Let’s take a look at some top moments and records from the match. CSK vs PBKS, Match 7, Top Moments 1) Ayush Mhatre fails bat check twice because of umpire’s error The CSK vs PBKS match witnessed a strange incident wherein Ayush Mhatre’s bat failed the gauge test three times, which eventually was revealed to be because of the umpire’s fault. For the unversed, umpires conduct gauge tests for batters, wherein the bat has to pass through a triangular plastic tool to be cleared to play with. This is mainly done to prevent any batter from having any undue advantage. Now, the same happened with Mhatre when he walked out to bat in the third over. The bat did not go through the gauge and Mhatre asked for a replacement bat, which also failed the test. But in a surprising turn of events, the umpire realized that he held the tool upside down all this while and the bat which Mhatre had walked out with, was cleared to be used. Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer had won the toss, opted to bowl first and had his chat with presenter-commentator Ian Bishop. But the situation changed when it was Ruturaj Gaikwad’s turn to speak. When the CSK captain came up with the microphone and was asked about his reaction to being asked to bat first, the fans at the venue cheered and whistled loudly. So loud were their whistles that Bishop had to halt the conversation with Gaikwad for a few seconds before proceeding. He even apologized to Gaikwad for the pause. 3) Sarfaraz Khan’s throw runs out Prabhsimran Singh One of the interesting moments saw Sarfaraz Khan run out Prabhsimran Singh with a direct hit. This dismissal was a crucial one at that point in the game as Punjab Kings were in top gear. This happened in the ninth over of the chase when Prabhsimran attempted a double off Noor Ahmad but misjudged the second run, being turned down by his partner Cooper Connolly. Prabhsimran, who had run halfway down the pitch, failed to get back in time as Sarfaraz Khan collected the ball and hurled it at CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, who took out the stumps at the non-striker’s end in a flash. 3. Ayush Mhatre dropped twice off Yuzvendra Chahal’s bowling Mhatre received not one but two lifelines in this match through dropped catches. The first of these was on the second ball of the 10th over, bowled by Yuzvendra Chahal. Mhatre, looking to slog sweep a delivery, got a top-edge and Vyshak, at short fine leg, ended up dropping the catch. He tried with a dive but the ball slipped out of his hands, resulting in a dropped catch. Mhatre was on 59 then. Mhatre was dropped again, this time by Shashank Singh in the 12th over when he was on 67. And guess what, the bowler was Chahal once again! This time, the youngster attempted another big shot but got a top edge in the cover region. Shashank, running in from deep cover, attempted the catch but failed to make his effort count as the catch was dropped.
