rahul-gandhi-and-kartikeya-to-face-off-in-high-court:challenges-bhopal-mp-mla-court-summons,-hearing-next-week

Lok Sabha LoP and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and the family of former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan are set to face off in the Madhya Pradesh High Court in a defamation case. Rahul Gandhi has challenged the summons issued by the MP-MLA Court. A bench of Justice Pramod Kumar Agrawal will hear the matter after one week. In 2018, when Gandhi was the national president of the Congress, he addressed an election rally in Jhabua. During his speech, he referred to the Panama Papers leak and mentioned the names of Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his son Kartikeya Singh Chouhan. Drawing a comparison, Rahul Gandhi had said that action was taken against Nawaz Sharif in Pakistan, but no such action took place in Madhya Pradesh. Kartikeya Singh Chouhan termed the statement defamatory and filed a case in the MP-MLA Court in Bhopal. The special magistrate of the Bhopal MP-MLA Court issued summons against Rahul Gandhi, which he has now challenged in the High Court. After preliminary hearing, the court has adjourned the matter for a week. The case between Rahul Gandhi and Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s family is likely to have implications beyond the courtroom, extending into political circles. On one side is a top Congress leader, while on the other is the family of a senior BJP leader and former Chief Minister. The issue may emerge as a key political talking point in the coming days. For now, attention remains on the High Court’s next hearing and its decision in the matter.
