Delhi Capitals (DC) began their IPL 2026 campaign with a strong 6-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Ekana Stadium on 1 April. Sameer Rizvi played a match-winning unbeaten 70-run knock to guide his team to victory. Chasing a target of 142, DC were in early trouble after losing four wickets in the powerplay. However, Rizvi and Tristan Stubbs turned the game around with a brilliant unbeaten 119-run partnership, helping Delhi register their fifth straight win over Lucknow. DC also became the first team to secure an away victory this season. Earlier, LSG had a disappointing outing with the bat, getting all out for 141 in 18.4 overs. Lungi Ngidi starred with the ball for DC, taking 3 wickets for 27 runs, while T Natarajan also impressed with three wickets, conceding 29 runs. From Prince Yadav’s heated moment with Tristan Stubbs, LSG’s first innings lowest total to Rishabh Pant’s bizarre run out, the Lucknow vs Delhi match had many interesting moments and records achieved. Let’s take a look at them. LSG Vs DC, IPL 2026, Match 5, top moments 1) Prince Yadav and Tristan Stubbs’ heated exchange Prince Yadav and Tristan Stubbs were involved in a heated exchange in the second innings of the match. This incident happened after the fifth ball was bowled in the fifth over of the innings, when Stubbs, who was relatively new at the crease, played a defensive shot. Yadav attempted to collect the ball on his follow-through and stared at Stubbs all the while. The South African too responded with a stare and the two were seen exchanging some words as Yadav was walking back to his bowling mark. The LSG captain opened the innings for his team alongside Mitchell Marsh and this happened in the third over, bowled by Mukesh Kumar. Marsh, on strike, hit the last ball of the over straight back at Kumar and the ball deflected off the bowler’s hand and crashed into the stumps at the non-striker’s end. Pant was way out of his crease when the stumps were disturbed and did not have any chance of making it back. The ploy of batting as an opener did not fire tonight for Pant, who had to walk back to the pavilion after scoring just seven runs off nine deliveries. 3) Mohammed Shami strikes with first ball for LSG Shami is among the best Indian bowlers in today’s cricket and despite not having played for the senior team for over a year, the veteran showed why he was such a special performer. Defending just 142 to win, Shami struck with the very first ball of the innings, dismissing the dangerous KL Rahul. It was a full delivery pitched outside off and Rahul attempted an aerial drive, only to miscue it and hand a catch to Mohsin Khan at third man. It was the ideal start that LSG would have wanted, given that they were defending just 142. 4) Lungi Ngidi deceives Nicholas Pooran with brilliant slower ball The first witnessed a moment of magic from Lungi Ngidi, who deceived Nicholas Pooran with a wonderful slower ball. This happened in the ninth over of the innings when Pooran, on the front foot, missed the off-cutter totally and the ball moved past his bat and crashed into the stumps. The team scored 141 runs against Delhi. Previously, this record was 153/8, which they made against Punjab in Pune in 2022. 2) Shami took a wicket on the first ball for the 5th time Mohammed Shami took a wicket on his first ball for the 5th time. Bowlers like Praveen Kumar and Umesh Yadav have achieved this feat 3 times each. The special thing is that Shami took a wicket on the first ball of two different teams’ debuts. Debuting for the Gujarat Titans in 2022, he dismissed KL Rahul (LSG) on the very first ball, and while debuting for the Lucknow Super Giants, he also sent KL Rahul (DC) back to the pavilion for a golden duck on the first ball.
