Commercial LPG cylinders in Madhya Pradesh have become costlier by ₹195 from 1 April, 25 days after domestic LPG cylinder prices were increased by ₹60. According to an estimate, some 50,000 hotels and restaurants in the state are still facing LPG supply shortage, receiving only about 9% of their requirement. Tej Kulpal Singh Pali, President of the Bhopal Hotel and Restaurant Association, said that the combined impact of supply issues and rising prices will soon lead to higher food prices, although rates in Bhopal have not increased yet. Additional cost burden on businesses According to Abhishek Baheti, a representative of the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI), earlier gas agencies used to offer discounts of ₹200–₹250 per cylinder. However, businesses now have to pay full prices. With the latest hike, the cost per cylinder is expected to rise by ₹450–₹500, adding significant financial pressure on the hospitality sector.
