To make this process even easier, the Indian government has launched a new online portal called ‘MYPNGD.in’. This website simplifies the switch from LPG to Piped Natural Gas (PNG). PNG is often more convenient and can be cheaper in the long run. PNG is delivered directly to homes through pipes, eliminating the need for cylinder refills. ‘MYPNGD.in’: Your one-stop shop for surrendering LPG The new ‘MYPNGD.in’ portal provides all the information and tools needed to surrender your LPG connection and transition to PNG. Step-by-Step Guide: How to surrender your LPG connection online on ‘MYPNGD.in’ Upon confirmation, your distributor will contact you. They will provide the surrender voucher and progress the refund. Then, the dealer will collect your LPG cylinder. Required documents: Generally, you will need the following documents: Proof of Identity: Aadhaar card, PAN card, Voter ID, etc. Proof of Address: Aadhaar card, Passport, Utility Bill, etc. LPG Subscription Voucher: The original document you received when you got the LPG connection. The government hopes that this new portal will encourage more people to switch to PNG, which is considered a cleaner and more efficient fuel. There are other alternatives as well on how to surrender your LPG gas connections: Most major suppliers allow you to initiate the surrender request directly through their web portals or mobile apps. How to surrender LPG gas connection online on agency’s website: Offline Process If you prefer to handle it in person, you can visit your distributor’s office. Prepare Equipment: Ensure the LPG cylinder is empty and the pressure regulator is disconnected. Required Documents: Carry your Gas Consumer Card (Blue Book), and a Proof of Identity/Address. Submit Refund: Return the equipment and documents to the distributor. They will issue a Termination Voucher (TV) and refund your original security deposit. How many LPG and PNG customers in India? Currently, there are 1.65 crore PNG and 33 crore LPG customers in India. Background: In a notification issued on Saturday, 14 March 2026, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas amended the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Regulation of Supply and Distribution) Order, 2000, under the Essential Commodities Act and made it mandatory for consumers with PNG connections to surrender their domestic LPG connections.
