Adani Defence and Aerospace delivered the first batch of 2,000 ‘Prahar’ Light Machine Guns (LMG) to the Indian Army in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. These 7.62 mm caliber weapons were manufactured at the Small Arms Complex in Gwalior. The government will use these weapons to enhance security and striking capability at LAC and LOC. The ‘Prahar’ LMG has a striking range of 1,000 meters, allowing enemies to be targeted from a distance. The machine guns weigh 8 kilograms with a length of 1100 mm. They can fire 700 rounds per minute. A ceremony was held at the Gwalior plant on Saturday to hand over the LMGs to the army. DG A. The company has delivered the first batch 11 months ahead of schedule. Initially, more than 7 years were set to complete the entire order, but the company will complete it within the next 3 years. Order for 40,000 machine guns According to the company, the total order for LMG is approximately 40,000 units. Defense Ministry official A. Ambarasu praised the early delivery, saying it proves that the capability exists to complete projects quickly. Focus on Government and Private Sector Partnership Ambarasu said that the government is working together with defense industry partners. He described “speed” and “scale” as two important pillars of defense procurement. He also said that the government and private companies will have to work together to make the country self-reliant. Plant Capacity and Technology Built in Gwalior, this center is spread across approximately 100 acres and has an annual production capacity of about 100,000 weapons. More than 90% of the materials used here are produced domestically. There is also an underground firing range here, where officials practiced shooting. According to the company, this center has the capacity to produce approximately 3 billion small caliber ammunition annually. There are also plans to increase the production capacity of large and medium caliber ammunition. Strict Testing of Every Weapon The company stated that every weapon must undergo multiple tests before being inducted into the army. This includes ballistic tests, environmental checks, and other technical evaluations to ensure the weapons are completely reliable and trustworthy. CQB Weapons Will Also Be Manufactured in Future Under future planning, this center is ready to manufacture Close Quarter Battle (CQB) weapons. This will further increase the small arms manufacturing capacity in the country. The company aims to start producing about 1,000 LMGs every month from April 2026. The entire order will be completed in less than 3 years. Affordable and reliable weapons through ‘Make in India’ The company says that these weapons have been prepared under ‘Make in India’, making them available at lower prices compared to the global market and proving reliable for the army and paramilitary forces. Plant equipped with modern technology This plant has modern facilities like barrel manufacturing, bolt carrier and receiver manufacturing along with CNC machining, robotics, surface treatment, precision measurement laboratory and 25-meter firing range.
