During Zero Hour in the Rajya Sabha, the issue of tribal identity and conversion remained heated. BJP MP Dr. Sumer Singh Solanki from Madhya Pradesh firmly stated that tribals who have converted should be removed from the scope of tribal reservation. He described it as a serious matter related to tribal identity and rights. Dr. Solanki said in the house that while the Constitution provides religious freedom, conversion done through deception, force, and enticement is an “unforgivable crime”. According to him, there is a systematic attempt to erase the original identity in tribal areas, which is both a cultural crisis and a matter of national concern. Should be delisted and deprived of reservation Dr. Solanki suggested that those who have converted their religion under greed or pressure should be de-listed and deprived of reservations, so that the rights of genuine eligible tribals can remain protected. Solanki also said that religious conversion is being done by luring people with better treatment, free education, and jobs, which is increasing social tension in villages. Demand for One Nation, One Law Questioning the legal system, he said that different state laws are not adequate, therefore a uniform and strict central law should be made across the country. He also indicated the need for an amendment in Article 342 of the Constitution. Referenced Supreme Court’s decision Citing the Supreme Court’s decision of March 24, 2026, Solanki said that just as clear provisions have been made for the SC category, similar provisions should be applicable for the ST category as well. He demanded the government to take concrete steps to protect the culture and identity of tribal society.
