The biggest source of income for the Municipal Corporation, property tax, along with all types of earnings, has recorded a decline in the financial year 2025-26. In the previous financial year 2024-25, Rs 548 crore was received during the same period, while this year, only Rs 517 crore has been received so far. This means Rs 31 crore less was received, and a decline of about 6 per cent was recorded. This is also concerning because this year, property tax was increased by 10 per cent and water tax by 15 per cent. In such a situation, not being able to reach even last year’s collection shows that the corporation did not show much interest in property recovery this time. The corporation had set a target of Rs 700 crore this year, which is not even close to being met. 6 out of 8 heads see a decline, only 2 register growth Collection decreased daily in March Corporation has 5 days left for recovery. Offices will remain open even during holidays for tax collection. The commissioner has given a higher recovery target, but even in the last days of March, daily collection is not reaching even 1 crore. This is the first time the collection has been so weak. Only shop lease rent has increased Looking at the figures, there has been a decrease in 6 out of 8 categories under tax purview, while only shop lease rent and 2 other items have seen increased revenue. However, these are items that don’t matter much. Shop lease rent brought in 8 crore more and solid waste management received 35 crore rupees this year, which is one crore more than before. Reduction of 29 crores in other items as well Apart from tax, the corporation also collects 11 types of charges, but this time, there has been a huge decline in these. Last year, till March 25, the income was 137 crores, while this year, only 108 crores have been received so far. That means about 29 crores less came in. Only parking, entertainment and Housing for All have recorded an increase.
