electricity-rates-increased-in-madhya-pradesh:low-tension-minimum-charge-scrapped;-20%-discount-on-ev-charging-during-day

Electricity tariffs in Madhya Pradesh have been increased by 4.8%, with the State Electricity Regulatory Commission (MPERC) issuing a new tariff order for the financial year 2026–27. The revised rates will come into effect from April 1. Under the new order, separate tariffs have been decided for domestic, non-domestic, industrial, and agricultural consumers. In a big relief, the minimum charge for Low Tension (LT) consumers has been abolished, easing the financial burden on small and low-consumption households. Same slab system for domestic consumers For domestic users, the existing slab system will continue. Consumers with lower electricity usage will be charged at reduced rates, while higher consumption will attract higher tariffs. For non-domestic consumers, tariffs have been structured based on load and overall consumption. Separate structure for industry and agriculture Industrial consumers will now have clearly defined fixed charges along with separate energy charges. For the agricultural sector, electricity supply will follow phased tariffs, which are likely to impact rural consumers. 20% discount for EV charging during daytime To promote electric vehicles, the commission has introduced special provisions for EV charging stations. A 20% discount will be offered on electricity usage between 9 AM and 5 PM, while a 20% surcharge will apply during other hours. Impact on consumers from April 1 With the new tariff coming into force, electricity bills for millions of consumers across the state are expected to change, depending on their category and usage patterns.
