The Municipal Corporation has intensified preparations for widening major roads in the city. Work is underway on six road projects from Subhash Marg to Chhawani Bridge and AB Road. Around 1,165 houses and shops will be affected by these projects. Some structures will face partial impact while others may be completely affected. All these roads fall under Assembly constituency number 3. Meanwhile, the Chhawani road will now be widened to 70 feet instead of the earlier proposed 80 feet. This has brought relief to local residents, as nearly 10 feet of their houses will be saved from demolition. However, officials are not ready to make any official statement on the matter. Middle path agreed between residents and officials In fact, there has been a long-standing dispute over the width of the Chhawani road. Traders had demanded that it be limited to 60 feet, arguing that otherwise the entire Chhawani area would be affected. On the other hand, officials wanted to proceed according to the width specified in the master plan. A middle path has now been agreed upon, fixing the width at 70 feet. A meeting regarding the road projects was held in the evening in the presence of Collector Shiv Verma, Municipal Commissioner Kshitij Singhal, Public Works Department in-charge MIC member Rajendra Rathore, and Additional Commissioner Abhay Rajnagaonkar. Marking done, action next The civic body has completed marking all affected houses by drawing center lines on all major roads. Next, the process of removing encroachments and starting construction work will be accelerated. Civic body issues notices to obstructing households As per the civic body’s procedure, first a notice is issued, followed by hearings of claims and objections, verification of documents, and finally an opportunity is given to remove the construction themselves. Currently, notices are being sent to obstructing families on these roads. On the long-pending Atal Dwar road, notices had already been issued earlier, but the matter later went cold. Meanwhile, widening work between Sarvate and Gangwal Bus Stand, especially from Hathipala Chowk to Gautampura Road, has also been stalled for a long time. Recently, the corporation issued notices to over 100 people here to submit property documents. Affected residents are demanding a reduction in road width and re-marking of the obstructing constructions.
