The government has changed the train ticket cancellation refund rules. Passengers will get no refund on cancelling tickets less than 8 hours before the train’s departure time. What if ticket is cancelled 3 days before departure? Additionally, the travelers will get a maximum refund if they cancel tickets more than 3 days before the departure time. Although, they will still have to pay flat cancellation charges. Refund on ticket cancellation within 72-24 hours before departure: While, the travelers will have to pay 25% of the fare as a cancellation charge if they cancel tickets 72 hours to 24 hours (or 3 to 1 day) before the departure time. Refund on ticket cancellation within 24-8 hours before departure: Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said passengers will have to pay 50% penalty if they cancel tickets 24 hours to 8 hours before the train’s departure time. Big change in ticket cancellation rule from counters! Another big change the Railways has introduced is that now passengers can cancel train tickets from any railway station. Earlier, they were required to cancel tickets only from the station where the train was scheduled for departure. Now we get fewer requests for ticket reservation favours: Vaishnaw The railway minister adds that due to steps taken by his ministry in the recent past, the number of ticket reservation requests that he gets under the railway minister emergency quota has fallen by 70% to 400-500 on daily basis from 150-200.
