Afghanistan cricketers have hit out at the Pakistani regime after an airstrike targeting a Kabul hospital killed and injured more than 250 people. Earlier, the Afghan deputy government spokesperson confirmed that 400 people lost their lives after an airstrike hit a drug rehabilitation centre in the capital. As per media reports, loud explosions were heard in the city around 9 PM local time, prompting locals to run for cover as they broke the daily Ramadan fast. While condeming the latest attack by Pakistan, prominent Afghanistan called out the brutal act of war. Rashid Khan lashes out at Pakistan for its ‘war crime’ One of the first cricketers to condemn the airstrike at the the Kabul hospital was former Afghanistan cricket team captain Rashid Khan who said in his X (formerly Twitter) post, “Targeting civilian homes, educational facilities or medical infrastructure, either intentional or by mistake is a war crime. The sheer disregard for human lives, especially in the holy month of Ramadan, is sickening and deeply concerning.” ‘Hope extinguished at a Kabul hospital’: Mohammad Nabi One of the most senior members of the Afghanistan national cricket team, Mohammad Nabi, uploaded an emotional post on X. He called the airstrike ‘murder by the Pakistani military regime’. The all-rounder added that the bombing decimated hopes for sick patients trying to overcome drug addiction at Kabul hospital. ‘No difference between Israel and Pakistan’: Naveen Ul Haq Another Afghanistan player, Naveen Ul Haq, referenced the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas. The pacer said on Facebook that there’s no difference between the Pakistan and Israeli regimes, seemingly hinting towards how the civilians were targeted. He posted his condolences on X (formerly Twitter). Pakistan denies Afghanistan’s claims According to Reuters, Pakistan have rejected Afghanistan’s allegation of striking a hospital in Kabul. The Information Ministry called the claims as “false and misleading”, saying they targeted only militant areas. The latest bombing followed Afghanistan’s claim that Pakistan carried out an airstrike last week as well, killing four people. Kabul then stated that it hit back by targeting a military base in Pakistan. However, Pakistan denied the allegation, saying three drones sent by militants backed by Afghanistan were shot down. The clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan started in February this year with Pakistani Defence Minister Khawaja Asif declaring “open war” against the Taliban government.
