The increasing pace of cervical cancer in the country has raised concerns for the central and state governments. According to the latest report presented by the Ministry of Health in response to a question by MP Rajinder Gupta in the Rajya Sabha, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu have emerged as the biggest centres of this disease. The situation in Madhya Pradesh is also alarming, where this disease is included in the list of top states. UP Becomes the Hub of Cervical Cancer Uttar Pradesh remains the largest center of this disease in the country, while Madhya Pradesh ranks sixth in the country in terms of deaths and cases. More than 4,000 cases of cervical cancer are reported every year in MP. Approximately 2,100 women lose their lives to it every year. UP tops in screening, MP not far behind The government has accelerated screening at ‘Ayushman Arogya Mandir’ and district hospitals for early detection of diseases. In Uttar Pradesh, a record 96.28 lakh women were screened in the current financial year 2025-26 (until February 17). In Madhya Pradesh, 11.96 lakh women have completed screening during the same period. So far, 8.73 crore women in the country have been screened. Now 14-year-old girls are receiving HPV vaccine The central government has launched a free HPV vaccination campaign for 14-year-old girls. For this, the use of the indigenous vaccine ‘Cervavac’ is being prioritized. MP Deputy CM Rajendra Shukla has instructed the Health Department that treatment for cancer and recruitment of specialist doctors should be prioritized in the under-construction medical colleges (Budhni, Chhatarpur, Damoh), so that women in rural areas do not have to travel to big cities for treatment.
