A shocking incident came to light at the Madhya Pradesh High Court in Jabalpur on Monday. A young man from Rewa arrived at the court carrying a foetus wrapped in a polythene bag inside his backpack. During security checking at Gate No. 6, guards searched his bag and found the foetus. He was then handed over to police from the Civil Lines police station. During questioning, the man identified himself as Dayashankar Pandey. He is a resident of Nadna village in the Baikunthpur area of Rewa district. The man said his wife had suffered a miscarriage following a recent accident. Accident happened on March 1, miscarriage on March 8 According to Dayashankar Pandey, he was returning home with his wife on 1 March when they met with an accident on the way. His wife suffered serious injuries in the incident. He said the child in his wife’s womb was miscarried on 8 March. He had a hearing scheduled in the High Court on Monday in connection with a petition he had filed. For this reason, he had come to the court. The man said he had kept the foetus in his bag along with his documents. Allegations of Attacks After Contesting Election Dayashankar Pandey alleged that he had contested the 2024 Assembly and Lok Sabha elections as an independent candidate. He claimed that after losing the elections, he started facing attacks. According to him, he and his family have been attacked four to five times in the past few years. He said he had complained to the local police station about these incidents, but claimed that each time he was asked to produce strong evidence and no concrete action was taken. Complained to IG-Commissioner as well Pandey said he had taken the matter to senior police officials as well. He had submitted applications to the IG and the Commissioner, but he claimed that no action was taken there either. After this, he filed a petition in the High Court. Wrote letter to President requesting euthanasia The man said he had even written a letter to the President seeking euthanasia, saying he was distressed by repeated attacks and the lack of action. Police counseled and buried the foetus CSP Sonu Karmi said the man was caught by security personnel deployed at the High Court and handed over to Civil Lines police. Police counselled him and, in his presence, the foetus was buried at the Kariya Pathar cremation ground. Civil Lines police have also contacted Baikunthpur police station in Rewa district. The man has been assured that police will provide necessary assistance regarding his complaint.
