The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced its Team of the Tournament for the T20 World Cup 2026. The star-studded team features four Indian players who played crucial roles in the side winning the tournament. India won a record third T20 World Cup title, beating New Zealand by 96 runs in an epic final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on 8 March. With this victory, India became the first team to win back-to-back T20 World Cups and also win the title on home soil. 4 Indians in T20 WC Team of the Tournament Sanju Samson, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya and Ishan Kishan found spots in ICC’s Team of the Tournament for T20 World Cup 2026. All four of these players were superb all throughout the tournament. Samson was also named Player of the Tournament for his splendid show, especially in the virtual quarterfinal against West Indies, the semifinal against England and the all-important final against South Africa. Bumrah was instrumental in India’s title triumph, finishing as the joint-highest wicket-taker in the tournament with 14 scalps to his name, alongside teammate Varun Chakaravarthy. But Bumrah got the top spot on this list because of the superb economy rate he finished with- 6.21 in nine matches. In the final, Bumrah’s four-wicket haul rocked New Zealand as they were eventually bowled out for just 159 while chasing 256. Hardik Pandya, on this part, made his presence felt with his all-round skills. Taking key wickets and scoring crucial runs, Hardik was pivotal to India retaining the T20 World Cup trophy. Ishan Kishan also had a tournament to remember. The left-handed wicketkeeper-batter made his national team comeback after two years just before the tournament and took the competition by storm. With his explosive batting, Kishan ended as the third-highest run-scorer in the tournament with 317 runs to his name. Sahibzada Farhan named opener, Aiden Markram captain Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan was the standout performer for his side even as the Men in Green had to bow out of the Super 8 stage. Farhan finished the tournament as the highest run-scorer with 383 runs to his name, the most ever scored by a batter in a single edition, breaking Virat Kohli’s record. Moreover, Farhan also became the first batter to score two centuries in the T20 World Cup. South Africa skipper Aiden Markram was named captain of the Team of the Tournament because of his exemplary skills. South Africa had an unbeaten run upto the semifinals, beating both finalists India and New Zealand. But in the semifinal, the Proteas were at the receiving end of carnage unleashed by Finn Allen and Tim Seifert, which knocked them out of the tournament. USA’s Shadley van Schalkwyk was named as the 12th man for his incredible feat of taking 13 wickets in the tournament. The highlights of his performance was four-wicket hauls against defending champions and eventual winners India as well as Pakistan in consecutive games.
